How to prepare

Gather your necessary supplies and place them in a convenient weather-proof container.

Have your pet examined regularly to ensure all vaccinations are up to date and to address any underlying medical conditions.

Keep a record of your pet's vaccinations and any pertinent health problems most boarding facilities and hotels require current vaccinations and proof of a negative parasite exam.

Make sure to control the external parasites (fleas & ticks) on your pet as these may become a problem during travel. It may be best to include a couple month supply in your emergency kit.

Heartworm preventative is also important - please make sure to continue to protect your pet during the disaster. It may be best to include a couple month supply in your emergency kit.

Place a proper fitting collar on your pet with current contact information. These tags can be purchase at most pet supply or local discount store.

Micro-chipping is also a great method of permanent identification. It is an easy procedure and can be done without sedation. Please discuss this with your veterinarian.
**Homeagain Micro-chipping is now taking a pro-active approach to pet recovery. They are now alerting all rescue groups and humane societies within your area to a lost pet. They also keep a medical record, vaccination history and current photo on file. A lost pet poster can be printed on-line for your pet. Also 24hr Poison Control is available at no charge.

Have a current picture of you and your pet. A picture will greatly improve the chances of reuniting a lost pet to their owner.
Keep a list of pet friendly motels, boarding facilities, shelters and friends and family in your emergency kit
